I am Amanda but my friends call me Motty, a busy Mother of 3 lovely children, who adore spending their summer holidays at La Roque, along with my 2 miniature dachshunds, a wire haired and a smooth haired.
There is so much to do at La Roque , and we all enjoy the familiarity of returning each year and seeing how the river has changed after the winter. The children race down to the river to ensure that their favourite rock jumping spot is still where they left it a year ago. My youngest is often found sitting upon a sunny warm rock fishing, while his siblings bomb past him in a rubber ring or a kayak!
My family all live in France, my brother has a stunning gay guest house www.cinqetsept – you should go and check it out!
I have tried to equip La Roque so you can have a relaxing holiday and you can cook / BBQ or go out to one of the many local restaurant that are close by.
I provide tennis rackets for the local tennis court, bikes, and have 4 kayaks which you may rent and as the house is built on a rock beneath it lies the stunning, clear river Orb.
Vieussan is a small quaint, quiet old village with a tower that you can hike up to, it has one restaurant which gets pretty busy and that is about it. No market, but it is sandwiched between two busy villages, Roquebrun and Mons la Trivalle which have it all.
Our local shop has sadly closed down, but I bike daily, or sometimes run to the nearest village – (Mons la Trivalle which is 6K) and sit in the pretty square for my morning croissant and mint tea.
Mons la Trivalle lies right beside a relaid disused railway track that you can run, bike or walk and goes for miles. It weaves it way past some amazing scenery and many many horses which my daughter is obsessed with and where you may ride!
Mons la Trivalle has a well-equipped shop, a restaurant, a pizzeria and a bakery, you can pre order your favourite treats.
I also love the local gas stations, which is 5 mins down the road, it has a little bakery and coffee shop attached to it, where they make fresh croissants the the most delicious bread daily. Beware though, it gets very busy! I believe the Mayor of Vieussan owns it. You can also rent bikes from there too. Don’t worry, all these details are in your welcome pack, which you will find on the kitchen table on your arrival.
I must mention Lydia, my wonderful right arm and house-keeper, If you need to know anything, she is your lady and nothing is too much trouble for her. I have a massive back up of my truly brilliant Mummy, who lives very close and can help out with anything!
I hope you have a truly fun and wonderful stay in my happy place.
