by air     The easiest way to get to Vieussan is by air; flights from southern England take around 90 minutes. Book online at least a month in advance, picking your days well and prices are often very reasonable. Airlines include Ryanair / Easyjet / Flybe / British Airways /Jet2. Local airports include

by rail     From the UK, Eurostar from London Waterloo or Ashford to Béziers (7 hours).

by road    We are 1043 km (652 miles) from the Channel Tunnel. It can be done in one day - allow at least 9 hours including two stops - but you may do better with an overnight stop (hotel guide on Michelin site). You can cross the Channel by Eurotunnel or by ferries from Dover, Folkestone, Newhaven, Portsmouth to Calais, Boulogne, Dieppe or le Havre.

If you cross at Calais, you will probably need to get on the spectacular new A75 motorway from Clermont Ferrand to Montpellier, including Norman Foster's magnificent Millau viaduct (right). Routes/travel information are available from the Michelin and AA sites, but here is a scenic route from Montpellier to Vieussan.

The Travel Service offers a wide choice of cross Channel routes with ferry operators including Brittany Ferries, P&O, Eurotunnel and Condor Ferries. They can also book en-route hotel accommodation, Motorail travel and personal insurance. They do not offer flights. You need to give a property reference to book with them. Please ask the owner of the property you book (La Roque or La Vignasse) for the reference number.

when you're here    You need a car to get around - if you don't bring your own, hire at around £20 per day. We tend to book online with Nova or Holiday Autos but there are many others. You can get local trains to Béziers and Bédarieux: info from French railways.

bus timetables    Montpellier Airport to the city centre. Montpellier Gare Routiere to St. Pons: you can get off at the Pont de Tarassac, then get a taxi for the last 4 km to Vieussan. Béziers to Roquebrun.
