The River Orb, known for its cleanliness, is home to a variety of fish. 20 metres wide at Vieussan, even in summer there is always good swimming and fishing in the deeper water here and in many nearby pools. Many stretches are shallow and protected by sandbanks, ideal for small children to paddle. Upriver, however, there are rockier banks and rapids. The river is full of wonderful private places to swim and bathe.

From a beach 100 metres above La Roque you canoe downriver to the main canoe base at Roquebrun (where you need to book). This route is recommended for novices. You can also drive upriver to Tarassac, and canoe to Vieussan or Roquebrun.

There are also wonderful pools in the Gorges d'Heric ... and don't forget the Mediterranean coast, no more than an hour away, for example Serignan Plage with its excellent beach restaurant (below right).
