Shop for your visit on the way to Vieussan at one of several supermarkets - if coming from the A75, go to Intermarché at Hérépian, or from the A9 (east), Géant just off the motorway at Béziers or the Super-U just before Murviel.

local shopping Mme. Nathalie Donnadieu has a stall on the main road in Vieussan from which she sells excellent fresh vegetables from her garden in season, as well as local honey and wonderful homemade jams. Try her chesnut spread! The two Carrière-Audier wine outlets (on the main road and in the village) sell cheeses, jams and some fruit and vegetables. The neighbouring village of Mons La Trivalle (7 mins.) has all the basics: alimentation, tabac, boulangerie, café, boucherie, garage and post office.

Another butcher's and a chemist's are in Olargues (pictured, 10 mins.) Local shops are not generally open during the middle of the day (often closed from 12 to 4) or on Sundays (except in high season).

markets are often the best places to buy a wide range of food and other goods: go to in Saint-Chinian on Sundays (and Thursdays - smaller), Bédarieux on Mondays, Lamalou-les-Bains on Tuesdays. A bit further away, try the Thursday market in Narbonne, the Friday market in Béziers, or the Saturday market in Pézenas. There are smaller markets in other local towns and villages.

bank machines are in Olargues, Lamalou, Cessenon (20) and in the Intermarché at Hérépian (20).

restaurants Le Faitout at Berlou offers a good standard of food in a relaxed atmosphere (sit out in the square in summer). The Petit Nice in Roquebrun has a terrace overlooking the river and serves large portions! Hérépian offers the excellent L'Ocre Rouge. L'Auberge de la Jasse at Douch, a mountain hamlet (the starting point for walks to the Caroux observation point) offers some of the most distinctive food in the area, based on locally sourced ingredients. On the coast, Le Calamaire at Serignan-Plage is a great place to have lunch on the beach. Even the pricier restaurants will only cost you the number of that you'd pay in £ in England.
