La Roque                                      garden and river beach                               view accommodation or book now

The large garden, reached by a flight of stone steps from the living room's cafe doors, slopes down to the river. The sheltered top terrace has a table for eating out, and a barbeque, with fine views of the river, village and bridge.

The picture (right) was taken in early evening in Spring, when the old cherry tree was in flower and the sun had come back round. In summer tree and wall provide welcome shade most of the day. There is also an old fig tree, laden with figs which you can pick in June-July and late August-September.

From here you descend by stone steps to two further terraces, before reaching your private river beach. This stretches from the base of Vieussan's historic bridge to the rock which gives its name to the house (behind trees in the top right of the left-hand picture).

It is easy to get into the middle of the river where the water is deeper and you can swim for 30 or 40 metres ... or float down with the current under the bridge. Out of the water, relax in a hammock, watching the canoes go by and the occasional fish jump up. There are also deck chairs - some people sit in  them on the bridge base.

For lunch, your picnic table is in the dappled shade of old trees. We even provide a picnic rucksack containing plates, glasses and cutlery, to make it easy for you to eat by the river! The beach has spectacular views, upstream to the Gorges de l'Orb and downstream where the village can be glimpsed under the arches of the bridge. Sometimes our beach is a bit too shaded for some sunbathers, but don't worry, the beach on the other side of the bridge, just 2 minutes away, will be in full sun.

Out of season visitors can also make fires and barbeque on the beach itself, but due to local fire restrictions this is only possible before 31 May and after 1 October.
